Last weekend, I took a motorcycle trip with my friend, who goes by the code name C001, to Texel, the largest of the Dutch islands in the Wadden Sea. The open roads, fresh sea breeze, and freedom of riding made it an amazing experience. It feels like time has a different, slower pace here, and its beautiful landscapes, cozy villages, and beaches make it perfect for a quick weekend escape. We visited the most notable landmarks on the island; however, due to underexposure, most of my photos didn’t turn out well, so I’m only sharing the following two:
Den Hoorn Church
This iconic landmark is one of the most photographed on the island, and for good reason. It’s an architectural beauty that stands out from afar, making it a navigational point. Built in the 15th century, it still holds important cultural significance today, as it’s not just a place of worship but also a venue for hosting concerts, exhibitions, and other events.
The lighthouse
Standing at over 46 meters tall, it’s one of the tallest lighthouses in the Netherlands and by far the most iconic symbol of Texel. The structure we see today was built in 1864 and was constructed around the original lighthouse, which is still visible in some places. After the Second World War, the lighthouse was renovated; however, bullet holes were intentionally left visible as a reminder of the history.
