The first roll

Once Captain Click arrived and I checked all the dials, buttons, levers, etc., I couldn’t resist immediately loading the first roll of Kodak Gold 200 and going out for a walk to take some snaps through Amsterdam. Okay, I wouldn’t go to an exhibition with these photos (not that I ever would anyway), but considering that they were the first 36 times I used my new shutter and that I had no working light meter, I’m not too ashamed to post a few of the photos here.

Westelijke Eilanden

On my way to Alkmaar the previous week, I noticed a beautiful part of Amsterdam while looking out the train’s window. Somehow, in 11 years of living in the city, I had never come across it, and I was struck by how photogenic it looked. It almost felt out of place, with its village-like vibe, a little hidden pocket of beauty, just a few steps away from the hustle and bustle of the city center, making it the perfect subject for my first photos.

Oosterpark

When it comes to parks, Amsterdam has quite a few to impress. One of my favorites is Oosterpark, due to its natural beauty, diverse flora, and proximity to beautiful buildings such as the Tropenmuseum and the former Sint Elisabeth Gesticht. From playgrounds to picnic areas, and of course sports areas, including a tennis court, the park certainly doesn’t lack activities. I’m glad that photos can’t capture the sounds people make when playing tennis.
